1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.:

If you’ve ever wondered what God's perfect will is for you, this passage sums it up in three powerful verses. God desires for us to experience and express real joy—not just sometimes, but always. His will is for us to live life as He intended, filled with His joy. However, experiencing joy can be difficult when so many emotions compete for our attention. True joy comes from the Lord, and when we reflect on His goodness, our hearts should be filled with overwhelming gratitude. We can carry joy and rejoice always if we keep our focus on Jesus.

God also wants us to stay in constant communication with Him through prayer. He desires not only to hear from us but also to speak to us. When we intentionally seek Him in prayer, we invite the Holy Spirit to comfort, uplift, encourage, strengthen, refresh, heal, and deliver us. Maintaining a strong connection and relationship with God should always be a priority.

Additionally, God calls us to express gratitude and be thankful regardless of our circumstances. Though this may seem challenging, it is not impossible. When we find even one thing to be thankful for, our perspective shifts from negativity to a focus on the positive. Too often, we take life’s necessities for granted until we no longer have them. God doesn’t want us to fixate on our circumstances because He is in control. When we maintain the right attitude in difficult situations, He is glorified.

We can be thankful in any situation because we trust that God works all things together for our good. His will for us is clear: rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and live a life of gratitude—no matter what we experience in life.

Read: Psalms 100: 1-5 1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Can you remember a time when you were feeling low and you decided to listen to music because you wanted to shift your mood? We begin to sing along, dance to the music and all of a sudden in that moment, we forget how we originally felt. When we begin praise the Lord it can take us from being low in our spirit to high and uplifted in his presence.

God wants to see us rejoice again in him. To see the blessings around us and thank him wholeheartedly. Things in our life and the world around us may not be perfect or ideal but God has graced us with another day. We should always take the posture of praise and worship him with everything within us. When we focus on how good God has been to us, our hearts become thankful and we remember his faithfulness in our lives. We reflect on all the times he extended his mercy and grace. We trace his favor in our lives and how he always came right on time when we needed him the most.

Be intentional with your praise. Today, don't bring a request in your private time with the Lord just spend some time giving him the glory. Our praise is powerful and it can shift our entire atmosphere around us. When we begin to praise God our atmosphere begins to align with heaven. Anytime we invoke the name of the Lord with a heart of thanksgiving, he enters our praise. The word of God declares that our Father in heaven inhabits the praise of his people!

Praising God can take on many forms. We can sing, dance, magnify his name and thank him for being the best thing that has ever happened to our lives, or you could write a sweet love letter to the Lord. Whatever your form of praise, God desires it because it is an open invitation to him. So, don’t neglect the praise in you. Take this moment right now to bless him!
